Imagine a doctor prescribing you with a diabetes medicine for curing high blood pressure? Totally insane right? We would never go to that Doctor again nor recommend to anyone.
Something very similar is prevalent in today’s organizations. Training on different skills is just a tick – box process being practiced by most organizations. Employees are being trained on generic skills rather than specific skills they need to fulfill their job requirements
If a Doctor can diagnose on basis of a blood report & then prescribe medicines, then why not the organizations?
The correct methodology is to identify various skills (Functional & Behavioural) which are required for fulfilling the job requirement and then as the Doctor conducts the blood report, it is important to measure each employee’s capability/skill level against that particular skill. The compiled report shall highlight the weak areas which needs immediate and medium term attention. Then customized content needs to be created and delivered to enhance that particular skill.
This new approach of training would definitely benefit the entire workforce to deliver exactly what their job requires. The ROI’s would surely improve to build competitive advantage.
